Initial numbers from the Martin Place and Belmore Park gatherings in Sydney rounded off at 10 000 and 20 000 respectively. As reports filtered through to the respective union sites and news reports, the main Sydney rally popped digits from 40 000 to 45 000 collectively and dynamically.
Organisers and members handing out free supplements of The Guardian - The Workers' Weekly triggered anger from vendors of Green Left Weekly and Spartacist. As the crowd were bred into a funk of complimentary reading materials the two vending publications were caught many a time in snatching back copies otherwise thought of as gratis.
